About WÎHKIPOW Restaurant

Community-owned, Community-centered

Our aim is simple: to provide fresh, affordable homestyle cooking in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. However, our commitment is a little more complex. We may be known for our excellent breakfast and lunch specials, large portions and quick service, but we’re also part of a bigger initiative.

The WÎHKIPOW Restaurant is one of three social enterprises offered through the Flin Flon Aboriginal Friendship Centre, a community-based and community-directed cultural development organization. (The other enterprises being a hostel/transitional housing and a craft store.)

Originally launched to supply meals for folks staying in the Friendship Centre’s hostel, we opened to the public in 1990 and quickly became a mainstay of Flin Flon’s business district. Our non-profit charitable organization now functions as a gathering space for the community, a place to learn about available supports and services, a spot for workers to meet for lunch and a location for catered business- and service-sector meetings.

WÎHKIPOW Restaurant became the official name in 2019. From the Cree language, it means “he finds the food delicious.” And you will, too!

We’re open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come by today and enjoy our dine-in or takeout services!
